East Coast Kayaking offers a range of courses to introduce you to kayaking in a safe and supportive environment. Courses range from short introductions to get you out on the water safely, to full day courses and courses designed to extend your skills into another level and begin to explore our coastal waters.
We have courses designed to help you realise your kayaking dreams and ambitions:
Courses take place over the weekend, but can also be undertaken by Private Tuition (1:1 or small group session) at a time to suit you.
Sea Starter Course - learn the fundamentals of sea kayaking on our flagship 2 day course. If you are keen to kayak this course is for you - no prior kayaking experience necessary.
Learn to Surf Ski and Ocean Kayak - designed to give you the fundamental skills necessary to start surf ski paddling and develop efficient stroke technique. Learn and improve your paddling skills on our fleet of Epic Surf Skis - V5, V7, V8, V8 Pro and V10 Sport.
Kayak Fishing Course - a half day learning how to handle a fishing kayak safely and manage all the gear you need to take out.
Introductory Courses - get a taste of paddling in these two courses: a 3 hour introduction to sea kayaking (the minimum to get ready for the kayaking on your Antarctic cruise!) and 2 hour introduction to paddling a sit on top kayak (available now by private tuition only).
Beyond Basics - Following completion of the Sea Starter Course you can extend your skills with this series of courses - choose from a 3 hour course exploring more advanced strokes and self rescue techniques further (including introducing the eskimo roll), day journeys and 3 day expeditions. We also offer a once-a-year opportunity to paddle Across The Bay in a Day.
Show & Tell - these sessions are for any level of experience but may be of particular interest if you are planning an expedition or kayak camping trip. Sessions include navigation, tides and weather interpretation, packing your kayak, kayak camping and clothing.
