The magnet switching system is good for both Fibreglass and Plastic kayaks. No holes need to be drilled through the deck to mount the pump switch. The Magnetx unit consist of reed switches soldered in parallel which in turn activate a relay.
Kit contains:
Magnetx Switch with 60cm electrical lead**
Instructions
Magnet in holder
2x Deck line guides
40cm Shockcord (magnet holder slides on the shockcord, fixed by the deck line guides, or use your existing fittings)
Box dimensions: 60 x 65mm with electrical lead gland 27mm out the side.
Fastenings for deck line guides not included - nyloc #10 round head recommended. Ensure nuts are not too long or they will snag things that you put in your hatch.
The unit can handle double cockpits - if 2 cockpits are connected we recommend a larger pump (Rule 800 or 1100) and a bigger battery such as a 3amph Lead acid battery - contact us if you are fitting out a double and need to purchase a bigger pump kit.
The magnet can attached to existing deck lines / bungee and slides back and forward to activate the pump, though we do include two deck line guides and a short length of shockcord. The pump will run while the magnet is positioned over the switch.
**The length of electrical cord provided is for a pump positioned behind the seat (60cm) - if you require an extra long cord for pumps positioned at the far front of the cockpit with a battery box in the front hatch, check the long lead box above.
Typically a front-mounted pimp is required in kayaks where the seat is also the bulkhead (eg. Raiders) or there is a sloping bulkhead (NDK Romany) or very little room behind the seat.
We recommend Sikaflex 291 for fixing the Magnetx unit under the deck of composite kayaks. For plastic kayaks you may need to add some bungee, mountings and screws (not supplied) as not much sticks to polyethylene / rotomoulded kayaks.
We strongly recommend you have your battery in a Pelican microcase - battery case in the day hatch to minimise the risk of salt water impacting your battery. Mount the battery case well above the base of the day hatch. The Switch should also be mounted inside a hatch - not inside the cockpit.
A note on Magnets - the magnet used here is a simple one from a craft supplier - replacements can be found at Riot Art & Craft or similar stores. We DO NOT recommend the strong Rare Earth Magnets - they will cause the reed switches to warp and stay permanently on or cease to work.

I've fitted it to a plastic sea kayak I use for surfing and rock gardening. I found the written instructions easy to follow and the pump switches every time. I have marked the "on" spot with a permanent marker on the deck.

Ive had this for 2 years now and still working perfectly. Saves a ton of work getting this part of a pump system right and comes in a box ready to go along with wiring diagram and magnet all ready to put on your bungy cord - easy as. If placing the switch under the front of the cockpit, running a pump behind your seat with leads to rear dayhatch get at least 1m - I ordered 90 cm which was enough but just. Everything appears to be great quality. Id recommend this for sure.

Hopefully, this is a switch that will actually work in the long term. Easy to install, well made and at this stage, bomb proof!
